Material Testing
Static Test - We take each bar and support it on the ends in v-blocks. We apply 2500 lbs of pressure in the center of the bar and deflect it 6 inches. They consistently return to true center within .000/.006 inches.

Dynamic Testing - It is very hard to dynamic test a barbell in a way that mimics the actual use. The only true way a bar is dynamically tested is by the bar being used for its purpose, olympic weightlifting. To date we have tried to bend the bar and have not been able to do so. Material Strength
166,000 PSI Tensile Strength. This is a "true" number direct from the steel mills material certification sheet. There are three definitions of tensile strength; yield, ultimate and breaking. Barbell material is tested by yield strength. Yield is defined as the stress at which material strain changes from elastic deformation, where recovery occurs, to plastic deformation, causing it to deform permanently. The higher the yield strength the more rigid the material is because it took greater pressure to permanently deform the material. Therefore having outrageous yield strength defeats the intended use of the material, which is to provide whip (or flexibility) in olympic lifting movements. We choose our tensile strength based on the materials performance not for a slick sales pitch. The material we use is one of the strongest cold rolled steels available but we avoid specific types of processing that can further increase the tensile strength. The tensile strength obviously provides more than enough strength but the key to the material is its flexible. This is why we feel we have the perfect barbell. Any yields higher starts to get into rigid material which become useless in the world of olympic weightlifting.

The Pendlay Elite Black Bumper Plates have arrived! These plates feature a flawless surface with custom print that is done at our Clover, SC printing facility. We guarantee that these plates are within 10 grams of claimed weight. All plates are weighed on highly sensitive claibrated scales and marked with their weight prior to shipping. If a plate does not conform, it does not ship. We choose to print these plates in our Clover SC facility because of two reasons. We can control the quality of the print and the quality of the ink. We use a highly specialize ink formulated to adhere to this specific material. The collar opening allows for a sung fit on the bar* eliminating the loose fit bumpers can have. The hardness of the material is ideal to the olympic weightlifters preference. When dropped these plates dead blow with little bounce. Nothing is more annoying than "chasing" bumper plates that bounce all over the platform.

Hardness may be defined as a material's resistance to permanent indentation and total failure (examples of total failure; insert coming out, rubber seperating, plates warping). We consider anything over 65 acceptable for a quality bumper plate. The maximum reading we have tested on a bumper plate is 96 (CAP 10lb). The overall maximum reading that can be achieved is 100. Higher reading bumper plates are likely to resist indentations and total failure than lower reading bumper plates.

We understand there are many ways to define the quality and cosistency of bumper plates. However, we feel that this type of testing is statistically valid and objective.

Many current products used for the slam ball movement make use of a plastic rim and cork system. Slamming a ball repeatedly at the wrong angle will cause the product to fail at or near the rim. ]]> The Pendlay Half Rack is perfect for areas with limited floor space. Made to go against the wall and allow for the middle of the room to remain open. Footprint is 67" wide, 64" deep, 96" tall (104" with optional name plate crown). Standard with upper and lower band posts, 1" pull up bar, weight storage, accessory storage hooks, drop in safety bars and drop in J latches. Walk thru design removes tripping hazards and gives room clean, open look. Base connectors are raised 4" off the ground to allow sumo style lifts. Lasered uprights are 3/16 thick 3 x 3 carbon steel with numbers lasered in for ease in locating latches. Top connectors gusseted with tubing for increased strength and stability. Weight storage covered with UHMW for both rack and weight protection. Latches constructed with UHMW inserts to protect bar no bar to metal contact.

Optional equipment: 0-90 Adjustable Bench, Flat Weight Bench, Dip Attachment, Top Nameplate Crown, Bar Storage

All drop in attachments are constructed with Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) buffering metal on metal contact to insure long lasting powder coat durability.

Pendlay Half Racks are built to order, please allow 3-4 weeks for completion. Standard colors are Silver / Black Hammertone (pictured above), Black, White, and Red. Any color can be custom ordered. Racks can have multi colored parts per customers request. Modifications per customers requests are also available.
